SharpReading ONLiNE - Teacher training in Reading Strategy Instruction
This is a programme based on the latest research on the effective teaching of reading strategies, developed over the last 10 years as part of the teacher training programme at the New Zealand Graduate School of Education in Christchurch, NZ.

Based on Best Practice 
It is based on tried and proven teaching pedogogy - explanation followed by modelling, the opportunity for guided practice and independent practice, until fluency is achieved. This scaffolded approach applies both to the readers being taught and the teachers undergoing the training programme.

Learning at your own pace
The online delivery is innovative, allowing for individuals to progress at their own pace in their own time in bite sized learning chunks. We have a five minute rule - the videos you view, the tutorials you read, the resources you print off - nothing will take you more than 5 minutes. We know how busy teachers are and we understand what constitues effective professional development in today's teaching environment.

SharpReading ONLiNE - 1 User Licence
For what you would normally spend on one out of school PD day (cost of a reliever + course fee) we offer you 12 months of quality professional development in this vitally important curriculum area. If this is your own personal interest or you recognise the need to upskill yourself because you feel something is lacking in your reading programme, then a 1 user licence gives you the access you need to do this in your own time, at your own pace, and you get to see it all in action. We think that the absence of modelling in most PD is why it is so often ineffective.

Decoding Strategy Instruction (DSI ONLiNE) and Comprehension Strategy Instruction (CSI ONLiNE)
Stages 1-6 of the developmental progression provides you with a structured approach to all the reading strategies.
If you are a teacher in the first few years of schooling your focus will be on Decoding Strategy Instruction (DSI) but you will have students who will be ready for comprehension strategies (CSI).
If you teach further up the school your focus will be on comprehension (CSI) but you will have students who still need support with decoding strategies (DSI).

School Site Licence
If your whole school wants to take this training on board then contact us and we will negotiate a site licence for your school based on the number of teachers involved.
